The company’s first operations started from a small office in Valletta and it was initially set up to serve the expanding clothing industry of the time. Through the efficient service it was providing to its customers, the company experienced a rapid growth during this period, and as a result Universal soon became a leading supplier to this industry.

As the company grew further, larger premises were needed, and in 1980 the company purchased its present premises in Athlone Street in Paola. The company was always determined to grow, and so Mr. Gul Mohnani, the founder and managing director, decided to diversify the business of the company. Thus the company continued to offer the service for which it had built a strong reputation to a wider spectrum of industries and businesses.
